Teachers’ day is an event that is celebrated every year during the first week of October, in honour of the international teachers’ day, celebrated globally on the 5th of October, per annum. Dubai Scholars puts up a marvellous event for our teachers to show our appreciation for their dedication and love towards making us students, better learners as each day passes.
For this academic year 2019-2020, on the 6th of October 2019, the students of year 11 celebrated teachers’ day with teachers from the Foundation Stages all the way to year 13. And I can safely say, every single teacher who got to dwell in the fun and joy of the event, enjoyed every moment of the day thoroughly. |
The first three classes of the day were assigned to year 11 students to take on the role of the teachers they were meant to represent. Our Head girl and Head boy took on the position of our heads of school: Ms. Aparna Verma – the founder of the Scholars International Group and Mr. Frank Scarcelli – the principal of Dubai Scholars Private School. The captains of the student council filled in the shoes of our Middle Leadership Team (MLT) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) teachers, while the other students actively participated in representing all our favourite teachers from FS1 to year 13. The day started off by walking into our designated classes, conducting our daily morning assembly and then getting acquainted with the students. As the day went on, we would enter different classes either for observations or teach them a lesson from the syllabus.
|
Lastly, to end the day on a good note, we students got to attend a meeting with Mr. Scarcelli and Ms. Gigi (that is, the student versions of the teachers)! We got to experience the ultimate meeting that the MLT and SLT teachers have with the heads of the school, and it was surreal! Our teachers too were quite impressed with our impressive roleplay of them. The day was wonderful, not only did the teachers have the time of their lives, but we students, learnt the true value and perseverance one must possess to be a teacher. I can say with confidence, that this would be a day, our teachers would cherish forever! |
On the 5th of October, our school organized and held the second DS Venturists business competition which was sponsored by Lock&Stock UAE. It was an extremely fun filled and enlightening experience for all participants!
The competition consisted of four different categories: Survival, Marketing, Quiz and Innovation and Differentiation. The Survival round required participants to analyse a case study provided to them regarding a large, well known business that was facing an undergoing crisis, damaging their reputation, sales and a lot more. The participants of this round had to come up with different plans and tactics to help resolve the dispute and rebrand their company to save the business from failing. The Marketing round provided participants with a theme wherein they would be required to come up with an innovative and effective marketing strategy to convince consumers of their goods or services. The Innovation and Differentiation round expected participants are to pitch their innovative product on a basic, ubiquitous product. They were required to come up with unique ways to better the product and make something valuable out of something quite simple and bland. Lastly, the quiz was a rapid-fire question and answer session related to general information and knowledge of the current, up and running business world. The quiz was conducted in front of a live audience |
It is a tremendously great platform where children, students from various different schools come together in a committee room and debate over the differences of their countries. Enhanced English, emerging friendships and three days of absolute fun, an event one can never forget. This year, a new committee had been introduced for the beginners of MUNs- UNEP, which dealt with the environmental programme, chaired by Alicia Kunte and co-chair Lujain elmallah. This was a great way for the younger children to begin their MUN journey.

|
Some people are quite lucky to form lifetime friendships with peoples they meet through this platform. We here at Dubai Scholars will always look forward to more MUNs because debating almost runs in our blood now! We continuously encourage children to take part in these events to build on their public speaking skills and their vocabulary. It’s a prominent opportunity and I encourage everyone to use this fabulous opportunity until we have the skills and knowledge one can only dream of acquiring. Thank You! |

The efforts and hard work of the core team made this event a great success. The Prophet (PBUH) has said: “There are seven individuals who shall be protected under the shade of the Throne [Power] of Allah, the Noble and Grand on the day when there shall be no shade except for His shade: the just leader … and the youth who spent his time in the worship of Allah, the Noble and Grand.”

A wise man once said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for today.” Education does not just end with school; our learning continues as we venture out into the unknown world of colleges and universities. On the 20th of February 2020 universities like: Heriot-Watt, Middlesex Dubai, Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, American University in Dubai, and more; came to our school to enlighten students as to which university is the best fit for them according to what they want to pursue in the future. It was quite informative for students, parents and as well as teachers! Not a single person who attended the fair, left with unanswered questions. All doubts and queries were clarified and sorted.

The Career Fair at Dubai Scholars aided the students in so many different aspects apart from just university requirements. They were now more conscious and aware of various facets like accommodation and healthcare expenses that would come along with moving to the university of their choice. But I am sure that, all the question marks that were wandering around their heads, turned into full stops, after the Career Fair.
